Nate Erskine-Smith is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Beaches—East York, elected three times since 2015. He has a track record of effective advocacy, doing politics differently, and strong grassroots organizing.
As an MP, he has helped shape the government's agenda to build much-needed housing stock, save lives in the opioid crisis, support low-income workers by enhancing the Canada Workers Benefit, protect kids' privacy online, take stronger climate action, and deliver increased funding for pediatric cancer research.
This January, Nate was appointed Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities. During his tenure, he's been focussed on driving down the costs of home-building by cutting red tape, treating housing as a home first and an investment second, and delivering federal support to double social and community housing across the country.
Raised by retired public school teachers in Toronto's east end, his involvement in politics started during the Harris years when he actively supported his parents on picket lines. As a student, Nate earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctorate from Queen's University, along with a Master of Laws from Oxford, specializing in constitutional law. He represented both universities as a baseball player.
He then honed his skills in commercial litigation, gaining valuable experience that would later serve him well in navigating the complex world of policymaking. He continues to live in Toronto's east end with his wife, a respected chef and nutrition professor and their two young boys.
